Sunshine State of Affairs

In early Fall 2015, Sam Speedy had another one of her brilliant ideas: Having been a longtime fan of SNL and its Weekend Update segments, she wanted to start a parody news show of her own. I don't know how she managed to fit another project on her plate with Ace Watergate, ChomPics Commercial Project, The Bite, and schoolwork. But she did it, and for that I commend her. Founded upon the principle that everyone should have an equal opportunity to pitch jokes, Sam held open writer meetings where anyone who wanted to could bring jokes about topics in the news and pop culture. She recruited friend and comedic collaborator Vanessa Gutierrez as a Co-Executive Producer and thus Sunshine State of Affairs was born. There are more episodes than are shown here, though Episode 3 was the only one I was in. The rest can be found on a YouTube playlist, under the username GatorNBS.

Episode 3 (Jan. 19, 2016)

In this episode of Sunshine State of Affairs, Vanessa Gutierrez and Kenny Stewart cover all the breaking that affects your daily life - even in the most minuscule of ways. Topics include $1 McDonald's mozzarella sticks, Starbucks' seasonal cup scandal, Anonymous' leaked KKK member list, and more.

Sunshine State of Affairs (Theme Song)

The day before I flew to New Jersey for my cousin's wedding, Sam told me she needed a theme song for Sunshine State of Affairs. The pilot episode was due for release in three days and the only thing missing was a theme song. "Think Miami Vice 80s electronic music," she said. After a 2-and-a-half hour flight spent listening to "I Ran" by A Flock of Seagulls on repeat, I shook a lock of hair out of my eye and got to work. The final version of this song was actually done without any MIDI controllers or keyboards, and exported minutes before leaving for my cousin's wedding.
